Defining Dyslexia at Greenhills


Our definition of dyslexia includes an individual who has trouble with the "related disorders" of spelling, handwriting, and mathematics, in addition to reading ability. Others may call this a specific language learning disability (LD). Our language development program is that of The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, based on The Twelve Principles of the International Dyslexia Association. These principles are the basis for the federal Reading First legislation,

MISSION STATEMENT


Greenhills School provides a supportive and enriching educational environment for dyslexic students of average to above average intelligence through an academic program designed to help them reach their fullest potential. Across the curriculum, our structured, multi-sensory and sequential approach is grounded in the work of Samuel T. and June L. Orton, and is based on the twelve principles of the International Dyslexia Association.
